About Chiropractic
Treatment
What
do we treat?
Though people often think of chiropractors as back doctors, we
actually work with muscles, joints and nerves throughout the body.
When not functioning properly, irritation of the muscles, joints
and nerves can present with a wide range of symptoms. Below is
a partial list of what we treat:
- Headaches
- Face and jaw pain
- Dizziness
- Poor balance
- Nausea
- Arm pain, numbness & weakness
- Carpal tunnel
- Tennis elbow
- Frozen shoulder
- Back pain
|
- Muscle spasms
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Elbow pain
- Leg pain, numbness & weakness
- Knee pain
- Ankle pain
- Foot pain
- Nerve pain

What
is Chiropractic?
Though chiropractic is best known for treating back pain, neck
pain and headaches, it is more accurate to think of chiropractic
as a functional approach to overall health care.
Functional vs. Pathological
Pathology is an identifiable condition that is reducing or reversing
your body's ability to be healthy. Pathology is often visible
or identifiable with imaging or lab tests. Examples of pathology
would be fractures, tumors, or systemic diseases such as diabetes.
Medical doctors are experts at identifying and addressing such
pathological problems.
Often pathology cannot be identified.
You may have low back and leg pain but there are no signs of
an injured muscle or fracture, and the MRI does not show a bulging
disc or compressed nerve. In such cases, the pain is often generated
because something is just not quite working (or functioning)
properly, causing an otherwise normal action (eg. walking, sitting, bending)
to produce pain. Irritation within joints, conditions that alter muscle tone,
and pressure to nerves can create pain. Chiropractors are experts at identifying
and correcting these functional problems.
Sometimes pathology is caused by abnormally functioning of
muscles, joints, and nerves. Muscles that are too tight
may be indreasing pressure on discs or nerves and create significant
problems. Such
pathological conditions, when secondary to functional problems,
often respond very well to chiropractic treatment.
After assessing
how muscles, joints, and nerves are working (or functioning),
chiropractors identify and correct problem areas. Chiropractic
is not limited to the spine, but can be applied to limb problems
as well.
Such areas of dysfunction create a wide variety of symptoms.
Symptoms occur both at the site of the problem and, because of
how nerves may be affected, distant to the site of the problem.
Regardless
of your symptoms, we find and correct the underlying functional problems.
Our goal is to maximize your health by improving how your body
functions.

Our
Treatment Methods
Chiropractic doesn't have to be rough and painful!
Our primary
treatment is called an adjustment. We use
devices that generate a very fast stretch to the joint or muscle being addressed. This
is referred to as instrument assisted adjusting. Because of
the incredible speed (up to 300 times faster than manipulation by hand) and controlled
thrust (a fraction of an inch in depth), you are able to lie in a relaxed neutral
position and the treatment is relatively painless.
Tight muscles may cause pain by themselves
or via pressuring joints or nerves. The
very quick stretches (adjustments) allow them to reset to a more
appropriate tone by influencing receptors within
the muscles and tendons. Consequently,
joints are able to move more freely and nerve pressure is reduced.
In
addition to the adjustment, when necessary we use different forms
of muscle therapy (various stretches, trigger point therapy, etc.),
traction, and instruct on the use of exercises, cold and heat therapy.

Commitment to You
Relieving your pain and improving your health is our primary goal.
We will fully consider different diagnosese and determine the most
appropriate treatment approach for your condition, considering both
mainstream medical and alternative approaches, and make recommendations
and referrals when indicated.
We will provide appropriate, safe, and efficient treatment.
We will discuss with you how to avoid recurrent episodes or break
chronic patterns of pain. By identifying probable causes we can
make recommendations to remedy such issues.
We will serve as a resource for those interested in improving and
maintaining better health by providing information and recommendations
for wellness care, such as nutrition and exercise suggestions.
